Celebrating Six Years with Karl
Meet Sales Team member, Karl, celebrating six years at Plastic Solutions.
Sales and Customer Service Manager, Karl Allen, is celebrating his sixth anniversary at Plastic Solutions this May (2024).
Karl started his portable sanitation career in 2008, working as a Senior Hire Controller at a partner toilet hire and waste management company, managing over 1,000 site visits and cleaning services per week. In May 2018, after the continued growth of the Plastic Solutions business, he joined us to support the sales function.
With 16 years of direct experience in the waste and portable toilet hire industry, Karl is well-versed in the challenges faced by toilet operators and is in a strong position to advise customers based on his experience: when he hears the question from you, it’s highly likely that he will have tackled it during his career, so he’ll have an answer for you.
Karl is an integral part of the sales team and (with Stu) is one of the first people with whom you’ll come into contact at Plastic Solutions.
As our business has grown, Karl has also taken on the main procurement task to ensure that our stocks are held at the right levels so that we can fulfil customer orders quickly and efficiently. In recent times, he has become the company lead in export documentation: he coordinates hauliers and handles the customs paperwork, “What a joy!” he often says.
When asked what he most enjoys about his work, Karl replied:
‘We work hard and have fun, and there’s a lot of banter in the office. I love the relaxed environment and I think this comes across when I’m talking to our customers. My colleagues even let me loose with the forklift truck now and then, and I do so enjoy bashing into things: only joking, we all have full licences, of course.”
My colleagues would also say that I’m so customer-focussed that I forget them: so much so that they even bought a wind-up timer for the kitchen, so I am reminded to pour the tea when it’s my turn.
In his spare time, Karl is a bit of a gourmet and big football fan. He is a Manchester United supporter (oh dear, at time of writing) and with two football-loving sons he gets the opportunity to play in a ‘Lads and Dads League’ (and subsequently limp around the office with a strong smell of Ibuprofen).
Jon Trelfa, General Manager for Plastic Solutions added:
‘Karl is a well-liked member of the team and was my first ‘hire’ when the sales and marketing side of Plastic Solutions was getting a bit too much for me to handle alone. I wanted him to join the team because of his experience and strong customer service ethic, which also allowed him to jump in at the deep end to help. He certainly hit the ground running! Congratulations on your sixth anniversary, Karl, and here’s to the next six, and beyond’.
